Gruntzel arrest
An inmate in the Cocke County jail attempted an escape on Wednesday, but he was unsuccessful. Corrections Officer Sgt. Katlynn Spann said inmate Randy Robert Gruntzel, 59, Boone Road, Newport, was being moved to another cell when he "ran down the hallway to the rear entrance to the jail," the officer said. Gruntzel was tasered, and had to be physically restrained before he was placed in a restraint chair. Now the inmate is charged with escape.
