Cocke County Circuit Court
A Cocke County woman charged with Attempted First Degree Murder was arraigned Monday before Circuit Court Judge Carter Moore. Kayla Marie Fort, 24, Birchwood Road, Newport on August 17 argued with her mother, Sabrina Fort, and when Shannon Lee Rice, of the same address tried to separate the women, he was stabbed in the abdomen. Rice is the boyfriend to Sabrina Fort. Investigators were told that Kayla Fort had previously threatened to stab her mother and Rice during confrontations. The injured man was flown to the U.T. Medical Center following the incident. A number of defendants did not show for their arraignment, and so arrest warrants were issued for their arrest. Those being sought are; Richard Brotherton, Darrell Coleman, James Hattaway, Johanna Hutson and David Owens.
