Cocke County Deputy Aaron Loveday said the 1:27 am crash occurred on the Hooper Highway near the Polar Road intersection. The officer says William R. Lane, 36, Junior Williams Road, Dandridge, was eastbound when his 2001 Pontiac went out of control. The vehicle crossed the center line, and ran off the roadway on the left side. The vehicle struck a utility pole and an electrical box before it rolled onto it's top. The utility pole was knocked down along with power lines. "(The) driver stated he was on the phone in an argument when the incident happened," according to Deputy Loveday. No charges were filed however First Call EMS transported Lane to the Newport Medical Center for treatment and the vehicle sustained extensive damage in the crash.
