Corley arrest Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes on Thursday announced the arrest of Kelvin Corley, 26, Cosby Highway, Newport in connection with three burglaries of two convenience stores in Cocke County. On April 21, DJs Market & Deli on the Hooper Highway reported a theft of cash and cigarettes totaling $8908, on April 22, the 411 Shell on West Highway 25/70 reported a theft of $250 in cash, and on May 7, DJs Market & Deli, on the Hooper Highway reported a second theft of cigarettes valued at $2,558. On May 9, while on patrol Deputy Lt. Chris Gregg conducted a traffic stop and determined that Corley, an occupant in the vehicle, was in possession of several packs of cigarettes belonging to the stores that earlier were burglarized. The sheriff says, "The excellent patrol work by Lt. Chris Gregg and Detective Lieutenant Eric Ramsey resulted in the and arrest of Kelvin Corley." Corley now is charged with three counts each of Burglary, Felony Vandalism and Theft.
