Walters State is recognized For the third time, Walters State Community College has been named an Apple Distinguished School. “This award recognizes Walters State as a leader in using technology in the classroom. This reflects the time and effort our faculty and staff spend researching and using technology in the ways that engage students and improve learning,” said Dr. Tony Miksa, president of the college. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet criteria for innovation, leadership and educational excellence, and that demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments. Walters State has a technology-rich environment that supports learning goals and an atmosphere that encourages continuous improvement. The college also uses technology to improve and encourage communication and collaboration among faculty members and students. This collaboration allow students to meet and use a variety of technology for research and classroom preparation. The college has made iPads available to students through iPad carts in the classroom as well as iPads that can be checked out from the library. The college has also made classroom materials available on phones or laptops for the convenience of students.
