Elderly Newport couple missing Newport author5ities are asking for the help of the public in their search for a missing elderly couple who have been diagnosed with Dementia and other medical issues. William Casey Huffman told Newport captain Amy Gentry on Saturday that his parents, Charles Raymond Martin, 81, and Mary Lou Martin, 83, could be missing or in danger. A home health nurse was at the home of the couple on Saturday when she observed the elderly couple packing their belongings into their silver 2002 Dodge Caravan, saying they had decided to return to West Virginia. Because the nurse said she could not legally prevent the couple from leaving she followed them to North Street in Newport where she said they headed south on Highway 321. The nurse then contacted Huffman to report the developments, and he contacted police. Captain Gentry says last week Mr. Martin asked a neighbor to take him to the Greyhound bus station. He ended up in West Virginia, sleeping on the street for three days before being found by police and being returned to Newport. Huffman said his father was told by his physician he may not drive. Mr. Martin is described as weighing 225 pounds, and is 5' 9" tall. Mrs. Martin who is confined to a wheelchair is 5'9" tall and weighs 275 pounds. The van bears tag BQB-480. The Newport Police contact number is 423-623-8777.
