Moore arrested in threat on Caldwell A Cocke County man is in custody on charges of Stalking and Possession Of A Weapon By A Convicted Felon, after allegedly threatening a retired Cocke County Sheriff's detective. On Wednesday, former Chief Detective Robert Caldwell reported that a man had approached him at a convenience store and made death threats to him. The retired officer did not recognize the suspect but the next morning found a wreath of flowers and a threatening letter near the end of his driveway in the Point Pleasant community. Cocke County Drug Agents Danny Hartsell, Chuck Evans and David Robertson began investigating the incident and placed cameras at the end of the Caldwell driveway. On Thursday, while servicing the cameras, the agents said a vehicle came by slowly and then sped away. The driver resembled the male suspect who was videoed on a surveillance camera inside the convenience store, the day earlier. The agents pursued the vehicle for a short distance and the driver was identified as David Moore, 60, Bassinger Road, Newport. Before being taken into custody, Moore had thrown a piece of paper from his vehicle which read, "you'll better watch out-Robert Caldwell he's a snitch." Moore asked the officers to throw away a gun in his vehicle, "before the TBI gets here." And he expressed concern that he would face five years in prison for possessing the weapon. Eventually, Moore was charged by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Agent Michael O'Keeke. During a subsequent search of the auto, a .22 caliber handgun was recovered, fully loaded with six bullets. As a result, a federal detainer was placed on Moore. In August 2008, Moore allegedly set several fires along Fowlers Grove Road, including a field on Baysinger Road and a barn. As a result, he was charged with arson and two counts of reckless burning, in the incident investigated by Caldwell. Officer Caldwell retired in 2011 after 37 years with the Cocke County Sheriff's Department.
