Bill Lee supports vouchers Tennessee Governor-Elect Bill Lee has confirmed what many proponents of public education had feared....he supports a school voucher program. Under such a plan taxpayer money would be taken from public schools and shifted to private schools. Lee says he is open to promoting a school voucher program as part of his upcoming legislative agenda and committed himself to being an advocate for school choice in Tennessee. I am an advocate for choice, and I think you'll see going forward that I will advocate for parents to have choices," Lee said. Such a move would take funding from struggling public schools and move it to fund private schools. Lee has appointed several staffers, who want to take taxpayers funding from pubic schools to fund private education, to his administration. Both previously worked for an organization that supports school vouchers.
