Sports betting in Tennessee
Tennessee is about to become the first state in the nation to offer an online-only sports-betting program. Governor Bill Lee says he has reluctantly allowed sports betting to become law without his signature. But he says any future attempt to expand gambling throughout the state would result in a veto. Lee allowed the law to go into effect because it did not legalize casinos which he said encourages criminal activity. The legislation will allow regulated statewide mobile and interactive sports gambling for people 21 and older, beginning on July 1. The proposal is expected to bring Tennessee revenue of more than $50 million annually.
