Hance captured again
A Cocke County Jail inmate who bolted from the courthouse, as he was being escorted to the jail Monday afternoon, was re-captured on Tuesday. William “Billy” Hance, 47, Old Sevierville Highway, Newport, was handcuffed when he ran down the courthouse stairs and fled the building. At about 5:45 pm on Tuesday, the escaped inmate was taken into custody in the parking lot of a hotel on the Cosby Road. Officers had received a tip that Hance had been seen getting out of a vehicle at the motel, and so officers converged on the area and apprehended him. Hance was being held on numerous charges stemming from a Sunday pursuit including kidnapping and numerous traffic violations.
