August election candidates
Thursday at noon was the deadline for candidates to file their petitions for the August election in Cocke County. Incumbent Josh Spurgeon will be challenged by Randy Laws for the two-year unexpired term for Constable in District 1. Three incumbent Cocke County School Board members qualified for re-election and will not be challenged; District 3-Rose Lovell, District 5 - John P. Johnson and District 7 - Jimmy Stokely. Incumbent Republican Jeremy Faison has no opposition in the Republican Primary for the District 11 House seat, in addition, no Democrat or Independent candidate has qualified to challenge Faison, according to Cocke County Administrator of Elections Josh Blanchard. In District 17 incumbent Andrew Ellis Farmer of Sevierville is the lone candidate in the Republican primary. Delynn McCash of Jefferson City is the lone candidate in the Democratic primary. In the race to succeed Congressman Phil Roe, the following have qualified for the Republican primary; Jay Adkins , Elizabethton Phil Arlinghaus, Seymour Richard Baker, Johnson City Chance L. Cansler, Morristown John Clark, Kingsport Rusty Crowe, Johnson City Steve Darden, Johnson City Chad Fleenor, Gray Robert D. Franklin, Elizabethton Josh Gapp, Knoxville Diana Harshbarger, Kingsport David B. Hawk, Greeneville Timothy Hill, Bluff City Chuck Miller, Afton Carter M. Quillen, Elizabethton Nichole Williams, Kingsport The candidates in the Democratic primary are; Chris Rowe, Elizabethton and Blair Walsingham, Eidson. Steve Holder, Johnson City is running as an Independent. To replace Lamar Alexander in the US Senate there are 17 Republican candidates, six Democrat candidates and nine Independent candidates.
