Buford lawsuit
The parents of a Newport teenager who was murdered in January as she left work at a Pigeon Forge restaurant now are suing the business and her alleged killer. l On Jan. 8, Savannah Burford, 19, was leaving the Sunliner Diner in Pigeon Forge when she was fatally stabbed, allegedly by a co-worker, 18-year-old Gabriel Turcios in the parking lot of the restaurant. The lawsuit alleges that prior to her murder, Turcios made “aggressive remarks” and stalked her. The suit also says managers and other employees at the Sunliner Diner knew about the behavior; witnessing it and because Burford had expressed concerns. By the day she was killed, the suit says the victim was so scared of Turcios, she had had her mother come to the restaurant to pick her up. As Burford left her job, her mother, Julia Cutter, watched her daughter being stabbed in the parking lot, and as a result has been traumatized.
