C&C Pawn damaged by fire
Newport firefighters and police Wednesday afternoon responded to the C&C Pawn Shop on the Cosby Highway. The business is owned by Cocke County Legislative Body member Forest Clevenger. The fire alarm came in just after 6 pm. Clevenger said there was a small fire in the backroom of the pawnshop. “We had just closed and everyone was out. I was around back mowing and the fire department was here within minutes. There is a little damage to the backroom but no one's property was lost. I want to thank everyone for their concern, and I want to especially thank the Newport Police that was here first, as well as the great men on our Newport Fire Department. Their fast response and hard work saved my building and all my customer's property. The Newport Fire Department says the fire was accidental, however the exact cause and the dollar loss is undetermined. The primary damage came from the smoke.
