Sanderlin pursuit
Third District Cocke County Constable Nathan White on Sunday arrested a man who allegedly nearly hit the officer's cruiser while driving on Bybee Road. Constable White said after he was nearly hit at 1:28 am, he attempted a traffic stop of William Russell Sanderlin, 28, Greystone Way, Newport, but the suspect fled. Sanderlin traveled onto Industrial Road and then onto Highway 25E into White Pine. The suspect then turned onto Leadvale Road, Highway 113, and then onto east Highway 25/70 at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour. Cocke County officers attempted to deploy spike strips but because of Sanderlin's speed, they were unable to deploy the strips. Soon after entering Interstate 40 eastbound, Sanderlin's car stopped when it ran out of gas, and he was taken into custody. The driver was jailed on charges of evading arrest, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, possession of marijuana, and the unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was issued citations for driving violations. His passenger, Kimberly Brookshire, no age or address given, said she had voluntarily entered the vehicle and she did not want Sanderlin to be charged with kidnapping. Brookshire was also taken into custody on an outstanding warrant charging her with failure to pay child support.
