President Andrew Johnson. bobblehead
Now you can have your very own limited edition bobblehead of President Andrew Johnson. This marks the first traditional bobblehead featuring Johnson and is one of 18 presidential bobbleheads that the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum is releasing today. Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 500. Johnson became the 17th President of the United States after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Vice president at the time of Lincoln's death, Johnson led the country from 1865 to 1869 and is regarded by many historians as one of the worst presidents in American history. His main accomplishment was the Alaska purchase. Impeached by the House of Representatives, he narrowly avoided conviction in the Senate. Johnson did not win the 1868 Democratic presidential nomination and left office the following year. He was born in North Carolina, and then moved to Tennessee. Johnson returned to Tennessee after his presidency and was elected to the Senate in 1875, making him the only former president to serve in the US Senate. He died five months into his term. Prior to his time in Washington D.C., Johnson served as the 15th Governor of Tennessee from 1853 to 1857 before Lincoln appointed him as military governor of Tennessee in 1862. Johnson was also an alderman and mayor in Greenville, and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee's 1st district from 1843 to 1853.
